Following Our Curiosity: Faculty Stories

The curiosity and passion of LCC faculty is truly amazing. Time after time, we see how an idea developed in the classroom or learning community has blossomed and evolved over time into larger projects.  Many of these projects are student-learning centered and interdisciplinary in nature. They also engage and collaborate with community partners.  While we will highlight a few stories of individual faculty following their curiosity by implementing a classroom project that develops over time; there have also been numerous faculty that have incorporated their passion and curiosity for teaching and learning into numerous college initiatives to better support our students. Part of the call to action in this document is to collect stories focusing on teaching and learning from across the campus in order to acknowledge the work that has been done. We also want to reflect on them to consider how we can build upon these experiences and lessons. Toward this end, we have created an OpenLCC site “The Shortest Distance Between Learners is a Story” . In addition, we hope that as part of this collaborative conversation, we create a comprehensive list of the past work of the college (academic service learning, Performing Arts programming, the work of Multicultural committees, community service projects, college initiatives and community work/services, etc.) in order to reflect on what we have already learned.

The following stories are in the words of the authors of the project prompted by the following questions:

  • Who are you/what is your project?
  • What inspired it?
  • What did you do/make?
  • What did it inspire? (like a pebble in a pond?) How did it transform?
  • What did you learn? What advice would you have? (for others who might want to pursue their own curiosity/inspiration)
