Starscapes shares the work of students from across the college with our larger community. It began as a suggestion at the first Innovation Exchange (itself a project of our strategic plan): what can we do to share the innovative work done by our students? A group of faculty took on the challenge, and with support from the college, Starscapes was born. The first event featured the work of around thirty students. Each year, the event expanded–now held each semester, the last event featured almost 150 projects reflecting the work of more than three hundred students. A collective focus on recognizing the work that our students do–and giving them the opportunity to share it beyond the classroom, and with a wider audience, drives this event. The essential goal is to build a community of learners who recognize and acknowledge each other’s work.
